When I came home from GDC I decided I was going to make a couple of games. One about a rampaging cactus, the other about how things would be if I could turn into a battletoad. I didn’t want to divert time from Treachery in Beatdown City, so I had to do this alone and rather than going with tried and true Game Maker, I decided to give Construct 2 a try (html 5 is fucking great and cross platform, as I learned from my team mate Vikram when working on the universe within…).
So the game I’m working on clearly isn’t the rampaging cactus one, because after working on it some I realized I needed a better handle on Construct 2, and here we have the project tentatively titled If I Were… Really loving those ellipses recently… …
If I Were is about a man heading home and all of the obnoxious shit he has to deal with. The difference between me and him is, he can turn into a battle toad when enough RAGE is pent up and can kill his stress inducing oppressors. Everything is still fairly early, but I’m digging the art style so far, I don’t think I’ll drastically change it. You can see I had superbrothers on the mind when creating my characters, really loved that sprite art. Pictures are kinda blurry because I took snippets using the Windows 7 tool while the game was running, and that tool really has no “options” of any kind other than do you want to save a decent looking PNG or a shit looking Gif.
Let me know what you think so far! When I get something that works better than it does now and actually has more than one encounter, I will post it.
